Korean BBQ Short Ribs (Kalbi)

Sweet, savory, and packed with bold flavor, these Korean BBQ Short Ribs are one of my favorite ways to use LOZO's Korean BBQ Blend. The ribs are marinated until tender, then grilled or baked until caramelized and lightly charred. They're perfect for backyard cookouts, family dinners, or whenever you're craving restaurant-quality Korean BBQ at home.

Prep Time: 15 minutes (+ 4 hours marinating)
Cook Time: 10–20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs flanken-cut beef short ribs
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¾ cup Asian pear puree or applesauce
  • ½ cup mirin
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • ¼ cup LOZO's Korean BBQ Blend
  • Green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place the short ribs in a large bowl and cover with cold water. Let soak for 10 minutes, then rinse and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, Asian pear puree (or applesauce), mirin, sesame oil, and LOZO Korean BBQ Blend until well combined.
  3. Add the ribs to the marinade and toss until evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for the best flavor.
  4. Remove the ribs from the refrigerator about 20 minutes before cooking.

Grill Method

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  2. Grill the ribs for 3–4 minutes per side, or until lightly charred and cooked through.
  3. Transfer to a serving platter and garnish with sliced green onions.

Oven Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  2. Arrange the ribs in a single layer on a foil-lined baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking.
  4. For extra caramelization, broil for 1–2 minutes per side during the final few minutes of cooking.
  5. Transfer to a serving platter and garnish with sliced green onions.

LOZO Tip

For the best flavor, marinate the ribs overnight. The longer marinade time allows the Korean BBQ Blend, pear, and soy sauce to fully penetrate the meat, creating tender, flavorful ribs with incredible caramelization.

Serve with steamed rice, kimchi, and your favorite grilled vegetables for a complete meal.
